As parents, we all long to see our kids do really well. Do well at school, do well at life and do well at everything they try.
The trouble is we can't be always there to lend a hand.
We must be able to equip our kids to fend for themselves and still do well. A good start at school is the groundwork for the future of our kids.
If they can kick off their schooling in the right, positive way, they will have every chance of going on and doing well at higher education levels and with a career.
It does take a lot of work for the parent to insure this is going to happen.
It is not very usual for children to be naturally smart but any inherent 'smartness' is always encouraged out by the astute parent.
There is normally a preschool preparation for kids where they are given the basics and get used to interacting with other kids and start to learn the disciplines of school life.
However, for the smart parent, the schooling of their kids does not start there.
The parent has spent many hours of subtle 'education' at home in preparation for the child's first year at school.
By the time the child gets to school it already is well versed in the basics of reading and counting including the alphabet and simple numbers.
The parent has spent many hours with their child with mainly books.
Your kids will love books if they are introduced as early as possible and they can relate them to a fun time with their parents.
Books and reading is the backbone of your kids education.
If you can introduce books to your children early and they see them as a positive then they will go on with an interest in reading which will be the backbone of their education for ever.
Nothing is learned at any level of education without much reading and if reading is something you hate then learning will always be difficult.
Your kids should start off with fun books like nursery tales that are read to them at every opportunity and graduate on to stuff like fairy stories that are still read to them.
Your kids need to look forward to these reading times as fun and they will be learning as they go.
You can add in basic word books and counting books as you go so that the basics are still fun to learn
If your kids can get to the first year of school with most of the basics already in place, they will have a good start.
Many kids have been known to do so well in this preparation year that they have been catapulted past grade one and start their first real year in school in grade two. This means they are a year ahead and will always have that up their sleeve if they need to repeat a year down the track.
This is usually not necessary because the kids with the proper start have the confidence to sail right through their schooling.
This is all because the parents are putting in the time right from an early age to help their kids get a basic understanding of education that is fun.
There is no better gift that you can give your kids than that of instilling the love of a good book and read.
So get a start on that kids library. Get some old classics on the shelves. Some good old nursery rhymes are a good start and some good old fairy stories. Fire up the imagination in your kids and instill that love for a good yarn, a good book and a great read.
It will set them on the right track for the education they deserve.
