How to Become a Child Model

Have you ever looked in a magazine, at a commercial, or even in a store catalog and thought your child has what it takes to be a model? Do you have people telling you all the time how cute your child is and that they should model? If so, then your child just might have what it takes to be a model.

Most parents do not know how to get their child into the modeling business. Lack of industry knowledge can cause one to fall prey to scam artist and overpriced opportunities.

A child has many modeling opportunities which can yield lots of money in the bank.

There are five main steps in the process of getting your child in to the modeling business.

First Step: Industry Research A parent should research the industry and learn more about how the modeling industry operates.

The modeling business is not for every child and parent. It's a lucrative business but can be very draining at times due to the long hours during castings, auditions and shoots. A little knowledge goes a long way and can possible protect you from future scam artist.
Second Step: Child interest and Suitability A child model must be interested in the modeling business and have the right personality. A child must be confident, have an endearing personality and enjoy being in front of the camera. Your child must be capable of following directions given by other adults and well-mannered.

Third Step: Finding an Agency There are many agencies worldwide, but this part is tricky.

You need to locate a reputable agency and one who is focused on booking jobs for their models.

A reputable agency should not sell modeling classes and photos.
They can refer you where to go to get certain services, but should not receive any financial compensation for doing so.

An agent's job is to book jobs, not teach acting/modeling classes. Fourth Step: Contacting an Agency The best way to locate a local agency is through the white pages and/or web.

Not all agencies represent children models and/or have an age range.

Every agency has a different submission process to how they accept new children talent.

Most only accept pictures through the mail or the web and a few have "Open calls.
" You should always call and/or visit their website for more details on their talent submission process. ALWAYS follow the agency's submission instructions to a "T" to avoid your child being overlooked and never considered.
Fifth Step: Photo Submission Process This is one of the most important steps in the process of getting your child started.
Pictures are truly worth a thousand words.
Since most agencies only take mail in or via email/web photo submission of aspiring children models, this could make or break the agency's choice to invite you and your child for an interview.
These pictures do not need to be professional, but even snapshots should be of good quality. The photos must be what they require and should represent your child in the best way.
An agency will only contact you if they are interested in representing your child.
