If you're taking the kids to San Francisco, be prepared to spend the whole day laughing! San Francisco attractions are perfect for people of all ages, but their interactive displays and engaging tour guides make them especially great for kids.
There are more things to see in San Francisco that can be covered in a single day, but here are a few fun places that your kids might enjoy.
The San Francisco Zoo
The San Francisco Zoo is a must-visit attraction if you have kids who love animals - and what child doesn't crack a smile when they see their favorite storybook animals come to life? The zoo houses over 250 species of animals, which are kept in 27 exhibits.
If you have little kids with you, your first stop should be the Fisher Family Children's zoo, a lovely 6-acre park that houses the Meerkat and Prairie Dog Exhibit, Insect Zoo, Native American Animal Exhibits, Nature Trail, and the Koret Animal Resource Center. Make sure you visit the Family Farm, which is not quite your average petting zoo.
Your kids can still get to stroke their favorite farm animals, but they can also do exciting things like help the animal feeding or watch them bathe.
Another popular attraction is the African Savanna exhibit, which brings Africa's most majestic animals closer to you than ever before.
You enter through a covered walk and emerge in a lushly planted savanna populated by zebra, giraffe, oryx, kudu, and other African bird species.
Make sure you stop by the historic Lion House at the center of the zoo. Since 1940, this building has been one of the zoo's best exhibits as visitors flock from all over to see how big cats live.
Zeum
The creative and highly interactive environment at Zeum makes it well worth a visit, especially for kids ages 7 and older.
This children's museum makes use of technology and multimedia arts to educate kids and bring out their untapped artistic talents. Your first stop should be the animation studio where kids can mold characters out of clay and create their very own claymation movie.
After this section, the whole family can move on to the Music Production Lab, where you can create a music video that you can take home on a DVD! Simply choose a fun karaoke song, dress up in costumes, and give your best performance, or work behind the scenes to add digital backgrounds or adjust the camera angles. A similar attraction is Studio Z, an interactive exhibit where you dance in front of their green screen while a software records your move.
Finally, there's the main gallery where kids can have fun with Zeum's multimedia arts projects. Expect your budding young artists to stay occupied for hours as they create their own computer graphics, digital music, 2D and 3D animations, or puppet shows. Kids ages 3-6 will enjoy building structures using the large soft blocks at the Lil Z's Toddlers section.
